Marisol was born in 1930 in French Venezuela. She was influenced by Andy Warhol and Willem de Kooning. Known as a Pop Artist though her work shows signs of Latin pre Columbian folk art and religious symbolism more common in Latin culture and art.
Besides works of art on paper, Marisol is known for her sculptures, woodcarvings, ceramics, cast metal pieces and sculptural assemblages. Her work can be found in major collections, ie: MOMA, Whitney Museum of American Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art, National Gallery of Art & The Hirshhorn Museum & Sculpture Garden.
