Maurice Esteve was a French artist born in 1904 and died in 2001. He lived in France but spent many years living in Spain and being influenced by Spanish artists and the Spanish societal struggles. By 1950, he settled back in France.
Esteve was known for his colorful abstract art of interwoven forms. He was originally influenced by the impressionists and the post impressionists but by the 1920's, he was attracted by the surrealism movement. In the 1930's, he had been experimenting for a short time with expressionism.
Esteve left his mark on the second half of the 20th c. The Paris "LEnvolee 1946-1956" Exhibition highlighted Esteve's role in the the history of art during the 20th century.
